The Ontario Realty Corporation (ORC) undertook over 2,000 construction projects valued at more than $400 million last year, making it a major customer of Ontario's design and construction sector.
That's a lot of potential opportunity for large and smaller design and construction businesses in Ontario.
During the past couple of years ORC has been updating its project delivery model in collaboration with the industry, working through the Strategic Opportunities Committee. That committee includes the Ontario General Contractors Association, Consulting Engineers of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Architects, the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario and ORC itself.
A key strategy for ORC throughout this initiative has been to align with industry standard practices whenever it can in order to best serve its own clients which include numerous government ministries. As well as benefitting ORC and its clients, adoption of industry standard practices provides greater certainty and consistency to designers and contractors who are considering ORC opportunities.
An important component of the ORC's new delivery model is new ORC construction and consulting contracts based on CCDC 2 - 2008 and OAA Document 600 - 2008.
ORC is now coordinating with the industry through the SOC to deliver a series of FREE information sessions across Ontario to help designers and contractors understand the details of the updated delivery model and the opportunities it offers.
Who Should Attend?
Businesses that have worked on ORC projects and those that might want to consider opportunities with ORC on future projects, including:
· general contractors
· architects
· consulting engineers
· trade contractors
· interior designers
What You Will Learn
· roles and responsibilities of ORC staff, consultants, contractors and Project Management Service Providers in the revised ORC project delivery model
· how contractors and consultants prequalify for ORC projects
· how construction and consulting services are procured for ORC projects
· details of the new ORC construction and consulting contracts including an explanation of key supplementary conditions developed for use with CCDC 2 and OAA Document 600 in discussion with the industry
· the improved process for payments to consultants and contractors
· ORC's objectives in working collaboratively with the industry to update its delivery model
And, time will be allotted in each session for questions, answers and discussion.
Format
Each of these sessions has been designed to ensure that accurate, current information about ORC's delivery model and project opportunities is delivered consistently to all stakeholders at the same time. To ensure that happens ORC local regional leader and the leader of the regional Project Management Service Provider will be on hand in each session. This provides you with the added benefit of a "meet and greet" to help you put faces to names.
ORC Senior Vice President Project Services, Mike Greidanus and Brian Watkinson, Principal of Strategies 4 Impact!, will conduct the sessions. Mike is responsible for ORC project delivery, including transitioning ORC (and the industry) to the updated ORC delivery model. Brian was a founder of the Strategic Opportunities Committee when he was executive director of the Ontario Association of Architects and is now engaged by ORC to facilitate the work of that committee and collaboration with the industry.
Coffee, soft drinks and water will be provided before the session and again at the 15 minute break.
And, if you can't attend a session in person ...
A "webinar" is being planned for those who are unable to attend one of the "in person" sessions. While you will be able to submit questions, you won't benefit from the "meet and greet" opportunity.

The Ontario Realty Corporation is a crown corporation of the Government of Ontario and, as one of Canada’s largest real estate management companies, is a major customer of Ontario’s design and construction sector, undertaking over 2,000 projects last year worth approximately $400 million.
The Strategic Opportunities Committee (SOC) was originally initiated in 2004 and was re-energized in 2008 at the invitation of ORC President and CEO David Glass to facilitate constructive consultation between ORC and the design and construction industry. Participants in this standing liaison committee include Consulting Engineers of Ontario, the Ontario General Contractors Association, the Ontario Association of Architects and the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario, as well as ORC itself.
