2008-2009
Building the foundation & tool-kit
- Accessibility framework edited and published in multiple formats (including PDF, WORD, Braille, Audio)
- Completed new Pilot Accessibility Design Standard for Ontario Government Facilities (includes application criteria for retrofits and audit checklist)
- Scope for accessibility Vendor of Record (VOR) completed
- Purchased technology devices to enhance customer service delivery – 3 TTY machines, 1 UbiDuo device
Building awareness
- First issue of Building Access E-Newsletter released
- New accessibility page established on ORC internet site
- Customer Service training program developed and piloted; also initial awareness presentations delivered to all ORC business units
Building an information base for future action
- Preliminary retrofit costing data obtained for 135 St Clair and 900 Bay (Mowat Block)
- All buildings in ORC portfolio categorized into AODA priorities (1=high and 5 = low)
- Scope for 50 building audit completed
- Established ORC cross business unit accessibility working group
- Completed questionnaire to inform work on signage and wayfinding standard
- Plan review of new Archives of Ontario building completed which facilitated numerous accessibility features to be incorporated into the building as well as investigation of front door access provisions
