Background


ORC’s approach to accessibility is laid out in its Accessibility Framework and its corporate Action Plan. The key elements of the 2009/2010 Action Plan include:

Building change by embedding new practices –

a. Consult on new pilot accessibility design standard

Building the tool-kit –

b. Establish Accessibility Vendor of Record

c. Investigate IT options for capturing accessibility data and testing new technology

d. Finalize signage and wayfinding standard and implement pilot project at ORC head office

Building the strategy for action –

e. Complete 50 building audit by September to inform future funding requests. Click here for list of buildings.

f.  Amend lease template to consider pilot accessibility design standard

g. Create accessibility maintenance and operations checklist for ORC service providers

h. Ministry outreach to collect and update program specific accessibility standards

Building awareness –

i. Deliver customer service training to all ORC staff (provide e-learning tool to service providers), develop accessible customer service policy, and file compliance report with ADO

j. Regular updates of ORC accessibility webpage

k. Continue release of quarterly e-newsletter (“Building Access”), which will focus on ORC’s work related to making the built environment accessible: Q1-Q4
